Good day my fellow Thriftonistas!!
I’ll like to share with you my recent visit to Spree. It was very refreshing! Granted, I didn’t find very many clothes during my visit, the overall scheme of the store is extremely tidy and well-organized and the staff is very friendly and informative. All of which I love! They gave me a run down on the upcoming sales, which I will share with you, at the end of this blog. They have a nice selection of linens and home goods. I wasn’t as excited about their selection of handbags and clothes. I only found three garments that I will be posting pictures of soon. They had an amazing selection of jewelry ranging from adults to children. Of course I picked out a few pieces and the prices are sickening ladies! I haven’t experienced prices that good everrrrrrrr! I also stopped by the Clothes Mentor in Orland Park and bought four blazers off the clearance rack. Their clearance items were marked down to 50-75% off. I spent a total of $22.00. I love this thrift shop! I also ran into another thrif shop called Neat to Repeat, which I didn’t go into, but I will be visiting soon. Of course I will share my experience with my fellow Thriftonistas!
So much about thrift shopping has changed, from when I would go with my mother when I was young. The face and economic makeup of the customers has changed, along with the items that are being sold at the stores. The biggest change seems to be the prices. It’s like going into a traditional store, which is why I would only frequent the thrift stores on sale days.
Thriftonista TIPS & TOOLS
When visiting any of these stores, please sign-up to be added to their email distribution. I know that Goodwill, Unique, Spree, and Clothes Mentor offer this option to their customers. Some of the stores allow you to go online and sign-up through their website. Their emails keep you in the loop on special sales events and my blog will keep you updated on any specials as well.
Last Sunday, I was at the Unique Thrift Store on Sheridan Rd in Chicago, where I was admiring a LV (white monogram) doctor’s bag for $69.99. I thought that was overpriced so I walked away, but what really got me was another item they were selling for $179.99! I thought they must be crazy. This store is very clean and well-organized, but ridiculously over-priced. There was however a great overall selection of clothing, housewares, linens and purses. I would only visit this store on Monday, which is their sale day.
The customers at The Village Discount Thrift Store in Chicago Heights are very cut-throat. They will fight with you and steal out of your cart, especially when it is sale day. They wait by the door, as the items come out, so they can have first pick. Yet even with all of the madness, I have gotten some great garments and housewares out of there as well.
Even if you don’t live in the Midwest, you can still utilize these tips & tools when it comes to saving. I have a system for saving and if you want to learn more, please feel free to ask me.
